So, here's summer project number 2: Go Green. But in the words of my friend Kermit, that's not quite as easy as I'd hoped. I think being a good steward of the world God gave us is so important, yet somehow I don't make it a priority in my life. But, I'm trying! Here are some of the steps we are taking...
We've bought the energy effecient light bulbs and are replacing our old bulbs with these as they go out. This seems like a no-brainer to me. Evidently, they use up to 75% less energy and last 8-10 times longer.
We've bought the canvas bags for the grocery store. I'm not going to lie... I've accidentally left them in the car a time or two. But I LOVE them. They are so much easier to manage than all the plastic bags and the straps fit over the shoulder. Plus most stores give a $.05 credit per bag on your bill.
Here's where we're struggling. I want to start recycling, but I'm a slacker. Abilene has a great recycling program, but you have to take everything out to sorting stations around town. So, I need to come up with an effective, easy way to sort and organize our recyclables. Any thoughts?
Things we are not doing to help the environment:
- Composting (althought props to our dedicated friends that do this!)
- Limiting showers. Although Gatsby drinks the leftover shower water, so some of the water is recycled. :)
- Let's just say yellow does not mellow in our house.
Now, onto other things. Believe it or not, I got talked into going to my 10 year high school reunion. And even more surprising, had a good time. I knew it would be great to catch up with my High School BFF Laura, but was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was to see what all my friends from the old Coronado days were doing with their lives. So, Laura, if you are reading this, thanks for a great time in the ole' Hub City! And if any of my blog friends have a big reunion coming up, take a chance and go! You might just have fun!

Ha Ha. That's why I liked it! But I'll vouch for ya that it's about 10 in the morning, so unless you were doing something I didn't know about, you were just drunk on despair from my impending departure.
Is it sad to say I didn't want to go to mine either? I was thankful for the excuse NOT to go because we had already flown back for Drew's high school graduation, and didn't want to make the trip again so soon.
I was very, very sad to miss our ACU five year though. Seeing all the pictures was really sad. Do we do a ten year? Miss you, friend. Praying for you.
I went to my 10 yr last weekend, much to my surprise, had a great time! Glad you got to go!
The hubby is out of town for my 10 year, and I sure don't want to go by myself (or be a third wheel with another couple), so I'm out.

I am really glad that you and Chris have finally stepped up to saving the world. HA! We have changed our light bulbs and I do use the canvas bags (I really like them), but so far so cans or bottles are saved from the dump at this house! Our little backward town doesn't even have community wide recycling. I kind of wish it did, but I know to be careful what I wish for.
Glad your 10 year was good, mine and David's were not a lot of fun -realized how un-popular I really was in high school! ;) Doubt we will be up for anymore.

Mauri I miss you! Getting blog updates just isn't enough for me.. I mean I love hearing that you're going green and all, but I need to hear the good stuff. The stuff you don't write on your blog. You really need to call us the next time you're in town.
